Dorset Antique bottle and collectors club ranked in top 20.

We don’t know what you all think about ranking sites on the web but we have just found out that the DABCC site is now ranked in the top 20 Bottle collector websites (12).

We guess its down to the keyword and tags we use to generate hits and views.

We are guessing we have a long way to go to get the hit rate of Antique Bottle Collector’s Haven a long established site run by Reggie Lynch. The main thing is to make sure that awareness is created so that people can see the enjoyment of collecting.

Dorset Bottle Archive Update

Just to give you all a heads up as to where the archives direction is going over the future by adding the categories we hope to expand upon and record. If you think any have been missed then please drop us a line.

You can see that the Dorset Ginger beer record has also been updated to include Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland and the rest of the county.

We firmly believe that their are more out there to be discovered so if you have any not featured in the pictures a photo would be excellent and the record can be added to.

Club Meeting Feb 2015

mf18

Despite the shortness between January and February’s meetings members had been busy with a good few attending the Elscar Show. They reported some good buys and a generally busy show. A few good purchases were evident in the best bought competition category. These were made on the floor and in the auction.

mf13mf15

The competition brought out some fabulous local beers. Whilst not blessed with pictorials in Dorset the rare regional named beers made an appearance.

mf8mf9

In the wake of David Burtons book one of the competition categories was an onion/wine bottle. This brought out the Dorset Sealed and some dated wines really nice to see in real life. Some of them actually featured in this standard reference.

mf6mf7

The pot lid category drew out some belters.

mf10mf11mf17mf16

Thanks to Mike who put on a display of local Bournemouth Poole and Christchurch chemist items. Potlids and chemist items to die for and a very nice Bournemouth inhaler.

Club Meeting Jan 2015

Ahh !!!! struck down by the dreaded lurgy for the past several weeks and now recovered enough to post .  As posted earlier we didn’t hold the Jan meeting on the 1st as the hall was closed. I guess a few of us were also nursing our heads from the previous evenings festivities.

m4m5

There was a good attendance with fifteen members remembering the meeting date change. Some bottles were re homed. I added some local lids with damage in a buy one get three free deal. Some rare local bottle fragments also appeared.

m1m2m3

The competition entries were down in part to myself being disqualified in getting the dates wrong and bringing February entries by mistake I’ll blame the impending lurgi.

m11m7m10m12m8

Coming events were discussed the BBR Winternational at Elsecar with a few members intending to attend.

We talked about our show and the start of the Flyer distribution at shows etc. Of course news and progress will be posted on the blog/website as a matter of course.

Russ Editor of ABC now resides in Dorset and he is a DABCC member he came along and we talked rattlers.

m13m6m9

Next Month is Our AGM all current Committee members are willing to stand and any other nominees are welcome from within the membership. We will need a new competitions organizer in December as Steve after many years of doing the job wishes to take a break.

Flash Back to 2003 Dorset Club Show

dorset cream tea

In a response to a comment submitted about are we going to add creams to the archive? The answer is yes in time. The idea is to post most Dorset items and add to it to form a decent archive on what can be found in our region.

For the moment to whet your appetites a picture of a major display of Local Cream pots from many collectors in the region shown in 2003 when the Club held its show at Hamworthy liberal club. Any good images of items from our region would be gratefully received and added to the record.
