Dorset antique bottle club meeting December 2016

Sorry A technical glitch with Novembers meeting report as no camera. So straight onto Decembers Christmas bash members tucked in to a good buffet spread and raffle. from club funds and members donations.

Andy put out some of his local creams on display and he talks about one with Bob. These now form part of the Dorset record.

The competitions had some nice stoneware  and some Rock blues. You can see best bought was keenly contested with a Soyers lemonade but the Smith & Co Boscombe flagon won the day.

Vic showed off his recent Thames discovery mini John Gosnell base for Mustache wax. And I showed off the earlier version with lid for comparison.

UK bottle Shows my Highlights of 2016

Time fly’s by when you are having fun and there have been quite a few shows and many club members went to the ones listed in the shows section.

The regional shows take the format of predominantly selling tables. Club’s also put on displays from their regions to entice wanabe collectors to start to collect and show off to the seasoned collector a few surprises. There is something for everyone.

After our show in May there were as series of Elsecar shows organized by BBR I managed to make it to the National show which is arguable the best show on the show circuit attracting many people from the UK and from abroad.  What can I say it lived up to expectations. With Nationally rated displays to boot and arguably the best Auction of the year (Alan always manages to save a gem of two for this one in most categories).

Stratford was taken over by the Warwick club this year and a good show it was a nice GB tap jar caught my eye these in this shape are very rare.

Exeter show at the race course is  a good easy to find venue turning up some good items to see in the displays

Corsham was the new show on the block and it didn’t disappoint some it was well supported and the displays were world class.

Surrey Displays

Alton was buzzing as was Oxford show.

Finding non bottle show bottle related material and you can look at on line auction sites. but a lot of us now think out of the box to track down new discoveries and trapse around boot and antique fairs, flea markets. for example I made my yearly pilgrimage to Beaulieu autojumble and came across some choice enamel signs up for grabs.

Dorset Antique Bottle Club Meeting June 2016

It would appear that the Dorset Club has been a bit quiet since May last year. In truth that was not the case just that blogging took a back seat last year. I thought it was time to bring you all a glimpse what had been happening at the our meetings and bring it up to date.

June brought out some nice colored blue green and amber codds in the competitions. Some really scarce/rare local GB’s nice creams. In evidence was some show buys in the best bought. The Hawley & Son Lansdown Bournemouth lard/ cream pot was of note and a Robson Late Cox and Rix Southampton Hybrid.
