Berkhamsted Show Oct 19th 2014

I made the trek to Berkhamstead October show. A well run Show by NSCF&Co. This is very much a mixed show of collectables, bottles, advertizing etc. Had time to catch up and natter with a few friends I had not seen since the national. The hall is very spacious, people and the 90ish stalls were lost in side it. One which certainly deserves more support.

A few of the Dorset Boys went to the Elsecar show and were far from disappointed. They had an excellent time and fun weekend recommended to all!  Reported as a busy show. NSCF&Co and Alton Bottle Club links now added

Just a quick post. The more astute amongst you will notice that I’ve added a couple of links to our links page.

The first is the Alton Bottle club. They have been a constant organizer of shows down South At the Alton Community centre for as far as I can remember. In fact I think they are one of the first shows I decided to dispose of my surplus bottles over twenty five years ago. Their two shows November and March are always sell outs as far as stalls are concerned. Gems still surface despite difficult digging times. Their site offers much more local firm history and their bottles research, meeting updates etc well worth a visit to keep up to date.

The second Is NSCF&Co’s another well known name within the UK bottle circles. Initially founded by Mike Smith and Pam Ball and now Alan Mc Conville flys the flag. Holding two shows a year now at Berkhamstead. The next one 19th Oct. and the Winternational in Febuary see show calender.

Bottle club and site webmasters let us know if you wish to be added to our links we would like to be added to yours. This helps us all to raise the profile of bottle collecting and what it has to offer.

New Black and White Pot Lid Book well Underway

Ronald Dales Price guide to Black and White Pot Lids has been widely recognized by many as the main reference source for B&W lids. It was printed in 1977 and many more have now been recorded and found. The reference was in need of updating a small dedicated team of people headed by Bob Houghton (ointment book fame) have been working on this mammoth task. They soon realized that most regions in the UK and abroad had dedicated collectors. On approaching them, spreading the word in magazines bottle forums and websites, most recognizing that this opportunity was not going to happen again have rallied round and given support for the project. Now in Excess of 7000 images of real lids have been captured for the new publication.

We in Dorset have supported the project and ours will be pictured for all to see.

For those who may have a a lid which they think may be of interest there is still a little time to get it included and help the project. Contact Admin and I will forward any to Bob. Here are some sample pages for you to look at. Forecast to be in print end 2014. One for the bookshelf for sure.

The return of the Dorset Antique bottle to the WWW

Welcome to new site/blog for the DABCC created 1/09/2014

A few may have noticed we lost our presence on the WWW when our providers decided to end their service. This has meant we needed to re-think and this result is this blog/site.

Hopefully all will enjoy

Happy Bottling  Admin DABCC
